Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pie crust
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 tbsp flour
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 7 Granny smith apples (peeled, cored & sliced)
- 1/8 tsp lemon extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan and then stir in flour. Add water, white sugar and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the temperature and let simmer to thicken. Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon extract.
- Place the bottom crust in your pie dish. Fill the crust with apples, mounding them slightly in the middle of the dish.
- Pour the mixture from the saucepan over the apples, distributing it as evenly as possible.
- Place a top crust on the pie. Place either a lattice crust or a full crust with air vent holes cut in it.
- Bake for 15 minutes in the oven. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for 35 – 45 minutes, until apples are soft and crust is golden brown.
