Ingredients

  • 1 pie crust
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 7 Granny smith apples peeled, cored & sliced
  • 1/8 tsp lemon extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Melt the butter in a saucepan and then stir in flour. Add water, white sugar and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the temperature and let simmer to thicken. Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon extract.
  • Place the bottom crust in your pie dish. Fill the crust with apples, mounding them slightly in the middle of the dish.
  • Pour the mixture from the saucepan over the apples, distributing it as evenly as possible.
  • Place a top crust on the pie. Place either a lattice crust or a full crust with air vent holes cut in it.
  • Bake for 15 minutes in the oven. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for 35 - 45 minutes, until apples are soft and crust is golden brown.
