replace your cabin gutters

All structures, including cabins, have important features like gutters to protect them from natural elements. While getting out in nature is one of the major points of having a cabin, we don’t want nature getting too close or inside our structure. Gutters are one way to keep water away from our cabins. However, they don’t provide perfect protection forever. Keep reading to learn about three signs you need to replace your cabin gutters for renewed protection.

You Notice Cracks or Fractures in Your Gutters

The entire point of your cabin gutter system is to gather water and drain it away from your structure. If your gutters have cracks or fractures, they’ll leak water around your cabin instead of gathering and draining it. To catch leaky cracks, check your gutters when it rains. Some cracks are so thin you won’t notice them unless you see dripping water. Fractures are bigger, so you will likely be able to notice them in all conditions. No matter which issue you see first, schedule a gutter replacement as soon as possible to mitigate this water problem.

Your Cabin Has Mold or Peeling Paint

Leaky gutters can allow water to drip down the side of your cabin and pool around the structure. Sometimes, we notice the presence of this extra moisture before we notice the leaky gutters. While you can make your cabin more weather-resistant with different exterior finishes, any extra moisture can still cause problems. You may notice peeling paint if you haven’t added a weather-resistant finish. If you have, look for mold and mildew around the exterior of your home or vulnerable areas like windows and basements.

Your Foundation or Surrounding Soil Has Problems

Depending on the severity of your leaky gutters, mold might be the least of your problems. When too much water seeps into the soil around your structure, the foundation can absorb it. The more water your foundation absorbs, the weaker it gets. Weak foundations can crack or even shift with little warning. Surrounding soil may also absorb excess water, washing away soil nutrients and hurting your vegetation. Protecting your foundation and soil is one reason why gutters are important. Three major signs you need to replace your cabin gutters are cracks, mold, and foundation problems. These aren’t the only signs, but they are some of the most obvious ones. Keep a close eye on your gutters as they get older so that you can protect your cabin from water damage.
