About The Recipe

This recipe takes apple juice and adds spices to infuse fresh cider flavors. Other ingredients include maple syrup (for added sweetness) and orange & apple slices (for added fruity freshness).

This recipe is sweet and delicious. It’s a classic cider that’s fun to make and easy to serve if you’re entertaining a crowd. It makes about 8 servings.

Crockpot Apple Cider Ingredients:

The full recipe is at the bottom of this page, but here’s a quick breakdown of what you’ll need + how to make it:

  • 8 cups apple juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp whole cloves
  • 1/2 tsp whole allspice
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup (or brown sugar)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 2 apples, sliced

How to Make Crockpot Apple Cider:

To make this recipe you’ll add all of the ingredients to your crockpot and cook on high for 2 hours or low for 4 hours.

Cover your crockpot while it cooks and leave the lid on – there’s no need to stir the cider while it brews.

When you’re ready to serve the cider scoop out the spices and sliced fruit with a slotted spoon or strainer. You can also serve the cider directly from the crockpot (leave it on the ‘warming’ setting).

Frequently Asked Questions About The Recipe

Can you add alcohol?

Yes, this recipe is tasty with some added whisky: add about a shot (1.5 oz) to your cup (after cooking & serving it) to turn this into a spiked apple cider!

Can you substitute apple cider for apple juice?

Yes, instead of apple juice you can swap in apple cider, which makes this recipe extra flavorful.

What types of apples should you use?

I used a honeycrisp apple and a granny smith apple. I’d recommend using either of these (or both), since they have a lot of flavor. You could also use gala apples.

Can I use a different sweetener?

You can use your preferred sweetener for this recipe. Some ideas include maple syrup, stevia, honey, or brown sugar.

Where do I find the spices for apple cider?

This recipe calls for whole spices (allspice, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and optionally – star anise). These can usually be found in the spice aisle of your grocery store.

If you can’t find them locally, they’re available on Amazon (here’s what they look like: whole allspice, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise).
