Summary of differences:

The main difference between these two stains is that Transformation is oil-based and Capture is water-based. This means that Transformation can be used over almost any other existing stain, and Capture can only be used over another water-based stain.

Which stain is right for you?

Here’s 2 questions to ask yourself to choose between these two stains. Both are great options – but these questions highlight their key differences.

Does your log home already have a stain on it?

If it does, then you’ll need to check if it’s water-based or not. Transformation can be used over most other stains, but Capture can only be used over water-based stains.

Do you also want to use the stain indoors?

Capture can be used for the interior and exterior of your home but Transformation is only for exteriors.

Both stains come in a variety of colors and will need to be maintained with a gentle power wash and re-coat every 2 – 5 years.

Top Tips for Staining Your Log Home

Once you’ve chosen which stain is right for you, here’s a few tips for staining your home. Just as important is the stain you choose is how you apply it!

  • Clean your surface before staining: clean your logs and the surrounding area to prepare it for staining. And use a gentle power wash to rid your logs of accumulated dirt and grime.
  • When applying your stain, use a heavy hand! Don’t skimp on the stain because this will lead to uneven looking stain.
  • Stain in the shade because this helps the stain dry properly and prevents it from looking splotchy.
  • Apply 2 coats of stain because this is best for longevity.
